I had an idea recently about playing volleyball with the pyros and having a scout be the ball. On the volleyball court, there would be a bunch of respawning ammo so the pyros wouldnt run out of airblasting power.

Someone would have to build the level... but here is a basic mock up i did in maya to show you what I was thinking.

PYRO VOLLEYBALL

Tell me what you guys think and we can possibly organize it!!!!

Or tell me I'm a total moron for thinking up stupid shit like this!!!

Either way is totally righteous!!!!

    Sounds fun.  Like something we would do every now and the.  You know like playing pool map (I don't hate the map too much) on the weekends.  Cool idea.  Make it and we'll play it!

    Yeah Frog that is what I was thinking. Just an occasional weekend thing. It would be tough to get people to understand the concept who just joined the server, but perhaps they could watch my instructional video.

    Sounds easy enough to make.  I'll need to know a couple of dimensions before I could fabricate such a map in Hammer.

    Anybody wanna join me in the test server tomorrow? I'll figure the following crap out.

    A) Maximum pyro blast range
    B) Realistic volleyball court based on that info
    C) Just how many ammo crates are needed (as to make it difficult to keep a team of 6 fully able to blast enough)

    I kinda wanted to make it hard to have full ammo.   That way you only have 8 blasts to get the scout where you want before you have to go scrambling for ammo.   I was planning on putting the ammo in the out of bounds area with a 25 point damage penalty each time you go for the ammo boxes.

    The court itself will heal you 1 point a second and the "air" above the net will continually heal the scout at about 25 points a second.  This way the scout can "accidentally" be set on fire and continue to be bounced around.

    Also: We need more people than the test server can handle.  I'll make the map have team spawn areas and the red scout will have to be teleported by an admin to get to the volleyball court.  The red area will be an observation area around the court.

    STOBBIN, I love the idea! That will make it more challenging for the players and make it less likely for people to get bored with it as fast. That was a worry for me, that people will get bored. And I love making mini games with complexity. Once we get the rules set up and the logistics worked out, I can make an instructional video perhaps for people to watch before playing in the match?

    I was thinking, the net should cause some sort of penalty or damage. Maybe instant kill on the scout so people could rotate as scout? And the out of bounds area should also do something to the scout.

    OHHHHH FUCK I HAVE AN IDEA.... okay... what if there was a small platform above the playing area with a teleport where the scout could teleport from spawn. Then when the match starts, the scout could jump down on the appropriate side to begin the match. When the scout hits the net or ground, he dies, respawns, and teleports back up to the platform. What do you think?

    And keeping score? Is there a counting script in hammer? Like, "if scout dies on red side, put 1 texture on chalkboard?" Or it might have to be manual.

    And Stobbin, there is a thing in Garrys mod where you can have a Picture in Picture of a camera. It would be sick to have a camera set up so anybody playing can see the match from the Prime Angle during the match in their upper right hand corner of their screen.. Fantasy land, I know...

    How about this:

    Blue team starts off as the server and on the red teams side there is a big capture point surrounding the in bound playing area(out of bounds would be death or loss of point, so the blue scout will be the volleyball, then whenever the blue scout lands on that side he either caps the point right away, or slowly to give the blue team the point, whenever they cap within a time limit of course the teams switch and repeat.

    All other ideas are great for this except the dispenser floor, sorry boba but just like stob said it would get annoying and would also take to long to do anything.  I would also have to disable the class limiter plugin for the map but I think its a great Idea, maybe also have the scout spawn at the top and fall in, though that would be hard to separate.  I think you would have to make a plugin for that.  So besides DSS does anyone know how to C++?  Not to mention to force a player to be a scout... hmm mabye make a seperat class limit plugin to have one scout only....IDK!?

    It's more like a drawing board than anything...

    Dom, wasn't there something in the original TF about a civilian? The VIP mission or something? Did someone automattically get selected for that job, or was it volunteer?

    You mean the hunted mod, then yes were the engineer could only melee, which was useless...

    But yea, we have that mod as well but its a sourcemod plugin and it can only be engineers, unless I can mess around with that...

    The main problem is, we only want ONE red scout to be able to access the volleyball court.  I can make a path that only a scout can enter, but that doesn't restrict two (or more) scouts from entering.

    In related ideas:  hitting the top of the net now KILLS instantly.

    hooray for temporary solutions!  I built a maze/tunnel only a demoman can get through, and its tricky as hell to do unless you know how.

    I don't plan on improving the map anymore, unless someone can give me a better solution to the problem.  Give me, not suggest.  I'm done exploding my brain with this.

    idk what mapping is like with TF2 cause i havent been able to get into it yet, but making a teleport for CS:S is pretty simple, not sure why you are having a problem with it

    Ok, so we missed our flight. We arived 45 minutes before the flight to check in like always, only to see that the place is PACKED. 7-11 people per line everywhere. So we wait in a line to a keiosk for 20 minutes. We finally get to the keisok only to find it locked us out. So we spend another 20 Godforsaken minutes trying to get help to get registerd Only to get told: "Sorry we can't help you, you missed your flight".

    What. the Dick.

    We only missed pur flight because OF THE LINES THAT WERE ASLONG AS A GODDAMN SHUTTLE BUS. MAYBE IF YOU DIDN'T HAVE 3 ASSHATS PER 50 PEOPLE WE WOULDN'T HAVE HAPPEND. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.

    Appearently, this happens all the time, I guess thats why they put a hotel in the airport. (Which is were we are staying out for the night.)

    Our flight has been recheduled for tomarrow, same time. So please wait for me guys. ;_;

    I have a great idea Stobin.  This should solve everything.  Duplicate the v-ball court and make a red side.  You can maybe make an interance way so that the red side can go in the glassed in area to view the blue team and their game and vice versa.  Then you make one of the red spawn spawn above the net of the blu side and one of the blu side spawns spawn above the net of the red.  We will probibly play this when we are full.  So some blu person is bound to spawn in the red team and vice vera.  Whoever spawns on the other team becomes the v-ball.  Now if there were a way you could manipulate the spawn so that only one person can spawn there within one life span.  If you could do that then I think My idea will work.  Also the red team will be having fun playing v-ball along with the blu so everyone is engaged in the game!
