I've been talking to FixX who is new to TD and he recently bought a 32 slot TF2 server and was looking for a clan to join because he does not want to start his own clan, he just wants to join one and donate his server to them.
Now a lot of things here need to be covered in case you guys want to do this. First off I am asking what you guys think about this. Also there is a lot of things to be considered before hand.
The server we have now will be either turned into a shindileers server, L4D, or just be completely removed after people know where to look for out new server.
Also we really need to get to know this go FixX in case anything bad might happen not to say it would but you know how things go with people and I just want to be clear on things and I do not mean any disrespect to anyone. We are very strick on who we let into the clan and we do that for a reason.
He also would provide a 50 slot ventrilo server but we really don't us them to much.
Tell me what you guys think, if we do consider it I want to take all the proper precautions before hand so we end up with no issues.

That's the thing not bashing him or anything and I hope he doesn't get offended but you just never know with someone. Also some 32 servers have stalemates but we are beginning to play on larger maps. Also 32 slot servers stay much more active because of the number of slots.

With valves release of a new server rating system and the scout update allowing us play more custom maps, I think this might be an excellent way to keep up our moment and grow a bit more. I know nothing about FixX except that he can be an embarassingly good player. That said this does seem a bit too perfect.

I definitely like 24 player servers better than 32. A full 32 slot server can seem very crowded. Also, what happens if he doesn't get along with some of the clan? Who takes the fall? I don't really want to seem super negative about it, but it seems like a situation where the gains are not as great as the potential losses.

anyway to stay on subject.....i'm not so sure about this. i've never met the guy so i think he should have to go through a voting process just like everyone else, and i dunno if i like the idea of someone else taking over the server besides dom. we all know that since this guy will be donating the server, he'll have the final say on most stuff that happens with it. furthermore, if he happens to have a dispute with a clan member and makes us make a choice between the server, or that clan member...well we all see where that could lead as well. i can just foresee alot of clan drama getting started from all this

I completely understand where you guys are coming from. I'm not here for the drama, powertrip, or to break up your clan or anything like that. Dom will have full ftp and cp access to the server and I really don't care what he does with it as long as its being used. Also when I was talking to Dom he mentioned that your server has been paid for one full year so IF anything would happen, and I really doubt anything will, you guys will still have your original server. Also if for some crazy reason I would happen to get into a disagreement with another clan member it will be handled in a professional manner, not "He gets teh boot or I take away my serverz!". I'm just here to play and have fun!  |

It would be cool to have a shiny new server and all that but i'm starting to get the feeling that Some kind of drama could kick off in the clan. Im not saying its my place to help decide or anything, just giving y'all my 2 cents. Besides, whats so bad about the server we use today? Stu I like your opinions bring them on, also yajuita thats cuz our server sucks. It can really only handle 22 with out noticeable lag and it's starting to piss me off. I definatly want a new server and I'm getting sick of gameservers so let see how things go.

I think its a little strange of someone to throw a 32 slot tf2 server and a 50 slot vent server at us, in such an abrupt way. Seem a little weird, and I can also see this creating a problem like a few others have stated already

Honestly, this shouldn't be about the server. We are trying to see if Fixx deserves a spot in TD. If he does then, as he said, he brings gifts. Personally I love TD server. I don't see anything wrong with it, and I probably wouldn't even be apt to change servers just because we got a new one. But we should judge this by at least giving him an unbiased, fair trial period. We can't be like omfg omfg he has a server! Let's let him join; this attitude often causes problems in clans and can lead to disruptions in the usual actions of a clan (even just playing together). It's almost like he is trying to bribe his place into a clan, not that he is, but it seems that way.
Fixx: I am looking forward to getting to know you, and I can care less about the server. I won't vote yes for you just because of the server which I think you would prefer.
I don't mean to spread negativity, this is just the easiest way to say what I feel.

Good point, guys we don't need the server as we have one that gets buy and I was thinking about moving for quite sometime and this just works out. It's not like I can't afford a server right now, and if it came down to it I could go out and buy a new one and drop gameservers. This is more so if this guy fits in or not and if he does this could be an easy solution, if not we can take the other route which I don't mind doing either.

the other half would be at:

I suggest you don't accept this gift server so lightly, perhaps if he qualifies for clan member you can let him in for a week or so, see how he does as a clan member, without worrying about any new server yet. He shouldn't look like he's bribing anyone. Just my 2 cents. |
